As members of the Maxinkuckee Yacht Club, many of you
are familiar with our rich history, which began in 1896 as a social
sailing club. Today, that legacy lives on with even more
opportunities to connect, socialize, and compete on the water. For
those who participate, or enjoy seeing our weekend sailboat races,
you may have noticed our pontoon Committee Boat which has operated
the racing for 33 years! And if you’ve noticed, it’s 33 years are
showing (and not in a good way).
A committee was formed three years ago to look into
options to replace this boat which has served longer than the
expected lifetime of most pontoons. If you’ve seen the boat, you’ll
know why. We believe we are well past the point of replacing our
Club’s flagship, and our Committee, led by Dave Franckowiak, is
looking at a range of options from re-fitting a newer/used boat up to
the possibility a new Smoker Craft boat specifically tailored for
race management. Smoker Craft has generously offered an attractive
discount that is dependent upon the level we are able to raise funds.
